8th Dec 2019 – SG1 Stevenage Festive Run

By 26th July 2019 September 20th, 2019 Featured Events

Spread Christmas cheer in your town and help local families by taking part in Your Town’s first ever festive 4k around Stevenage Town Centre.

Don your santas hat or reindeer ears and get in the festive spirit as you run through the vibrant town centre, to the town centre Gardens and onto the King George’s playing fields before looping back to the town square.

Expect stalls, music and food at the start and finishing line as we celebrate the community getting together to support their local hospital and town centre.

All the funds raised from Your Town Stevenage will be going towards the Lister Hospital’s neonatal big build appeal which is aiming to extend the current families room.

The East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals Charity with support from the Lister Neonatal families group have £95,000 left to raise for this important project and they need your help on this final stretch of the appeal.

Every donation big or small will go a long way to helping them hit the target and you can be proud of helping to create this much needed space that will help thousands of local families each year for years to come at Lister so sign up now.

We encourage everyone to join us in town on the day of the event to cheer the runners on and get involved in bringing a positive energy to Stevenage Town Centre.

Every runner who raises over £50 for the hospital charity will receive a free running vest on the day. To set up a fundraising page, visit: www.justgiving.com/enh or download a sponsorship form here.

East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals Charity exists to support projects at the Lister Hospital, New QEII Hospital, Hertford County Hospital and the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

This event is specifically supporting our Neonatal Big Build Appeal, to extend the current families room which we are aiming to raise another £95,000 to complete. The neonatal unit treats over 900 premature babies each year and supports thousands of local parents who are going through a distressing time when their babies are poorly.

The average stay for a parent on the unit is 12 weeks and the current space only accommodates six visitors at a time so the demand for the room far outweighs capacity.

The new extended families room will be 7 times bigger than the current space and will be a friendly welcoming area on the neonatal unit where families can stay, eat, cook and shower- creating a home from home environment for those who need it.

What our families say:

“We, as parents, all know just how tough the experience of using the Neonatal Unit is. We can’t better the amazing care given to our children by the doctors and nursing staff but we can help to make that time in hospital a little more comfortable for families like us and give something back to the unit that helped us.” – Glyn (parent)

“I wish there had been somewhere to rest, make some food and just take some time away from the ward without actually being off the unit and too far from my baby. To be able to have somewhere to prepare and store food rather than living off sandwiches and have a rest would have been amazing.” – Steph (parent)

“In May this year, we spent a week in neonatal care with our newborn son. The staff were so supportive and the parents room was invaluable to us. We are forever grateful!”
